Custom Build Up

Have you ever wondered why so many gowns are sampled strapless? Perhaps this will help explain! When you come across a gorgeous gown that has a key hole back, lace or fabric high at the back of the neck, a unique neckline, substantial straps, cap sleeves or full length sleeves, often the gown has been custom made specifically for the bride, often called a “build up.” The gown most likely started as a strapless style. Gowns that are non-strapless samples tend to damage easily for trying on, they often only fit a small percentage of brides correctly…therefore, maybe this is why there are so many strapless options! Don’t fret, Modern Trousseau is happy to custom design a neckline of your choice and we do this often! Here is an example of our Mimi gown build up with sleeves. Stunning…right?

Dakota arrived this week and she is now gracing the window on King. Latte duchess and ivory guipure lace finished with a ribbon sash and ivory organza flower. In my daily search of gorgeous “all things gowns” this am, I came across a beautiful inspiration board featuring our May gown. Now that our lovely shop in Charleston is just a few steps away from the ocean, it is very fitting that this board focuses on a few colors that are absolute favorites…specifically since it is the heat of the summer and all of us southern gals are sporting our coral tops and coral toes! Thank you Visitors Bureau of Charleston! Many months ago, a great group of ladies stopped in and asked to photograph one of our gowns on Rainbow Row. To our huge excitement, this photo shoot was for the COVER of the Official Charleston Area Wedding Guide. Wallis gown, white flowers, beaded belt, and a pink background…simply put, really pretty!

Happy 4th ladies! We are positive that sparks will be flying in this charming town this weekend. We have already seen a few blushing brides who just got engaged last evening…fireworks, YES! Many brides ask for suggestions of fabrics to wear during the hot summer months in the south.
